The D.C. flag has a long history of being incorporated into demonstrations of civic pride and protest. Since President Trump deployed the National Guard to the District in August 2025, our flag has been highly visible in responses to the occupation. This exhibit documents the flag adaptations that we have encountered in the first year of National Guard deployment; from home-made protest signs to widely distributed stickers.
