  Over the years, there are some adapted flags that have cracked me up. Amidst all the serious issues involved in this project, from statehood to gentrification, the funny findings have always added some levity and a reminder that often folks adapt the D.C. flag not for earnest advocacy but just to be silly. These are the ones that made me laugh out loud. I hope they get you, too.

  Most adapted flags are pretty clear in their origins, purposes, etc. This exhibit features items in the collection that aren't clear at all -- those that I've not been able to identify, track down, or find any information about.   My best photos

  As you can tell from the collection, I take these photos on the move, all around the city, mostly on my phone. And I'm not a great photographer! Mostly through luck, though, there are some photos that turned out great, by my standards at least. These are my favorites.

  Connections

  Most adapted D.C. flags in the collection are one-offs, single examples of flag adaptation related to the rest of the collection only by the overall adaptation of the flag design or a shared type of purpose or location. They're in conversation with each other, so to speak. But there are some items in the collection that share greater connections than most. These are items clearly by the same artist, even if not marked as such, or in explicit conversation with each other.
